Nature walk with gray and clever companions!

You want to hike with children on the Swabian Alb and discover the beautiful nature together with animal companions? Then we have a great tip for you, take the two donkeys Sina and Casimir with you on your tour. How exactly this works and why this hike motivates children, you can read here.

The stars of the hike are two good-hearted donkeys who were with children and people at an early age. Now, after a few years, they live on the Hopfenburg on a large meadow on the outskirts of the village a good 10 minutes from Münsingen. Barbara and Michael, the owners of the donkeys, take care of their protégés with dedication and put the welfare of the animals first.

How donkeys and horses differ in their behavior and appearance, Barbara explains this and much more to you at the very beginning of the hike, when the troop gathers in the donkey enclosure. At joint grooming and petting you will get to know the donkeys and also learn the funny story of why a mirror for Casimir stands in the donkey stable.

At every turn, the two donkeys come along!

From this moment on, the children are completely in love with the four-legged friends and eager to lead them. Barbara and Michael are of course coming for the walk. Since the donkeys set the pace, the children are allowed to determine the length of the route. From slow to fast, long or short, everything is possible. There is always a lot of forest, nature and beautiful views into the expanses of the Swabian Alb.

The donkeys observe the whole environment with their ears and eyes. Even if something seems suspicious to them, they stop. In between, they also have fant for fresh grass and test the tolerance of their companion. Teamwork between humans and animals is required.

Halfway there is a really great picnic break. Barbara makes her own spreads for this, brings fresh fruit, vegetables and bread. Meanwhile, the donkeys are also allowed to strengthen themselves. Meanwhile, you will learn a lot about the region, because the two speakers are both real experts in the area.

The donkeys cover the last meters to the stable at a record pace and then it’s time to say goodbye. Finally, every child gets a wooden donkey driver’s license, which they proudly hang around their necks.

Extra tip: Be sure to bring sturdy shoes to the tour! And after the tour you can make a detour to the albgut, where you can discover local manufactories directly from the Alb.
