The toboggan run on the Hochwurzen with children in Schladming is a very special festival in winter. It goes down the mountain for a whole 7 km, where you can also speed down with the mountain go-karts in summer. In between there are various alpine pastures to stop by. You don’t have to bring tobogganing yourself, but can borrow great wooden toboggans for 9 euros rental fee at the valley station. By the way, the train is also open at night.

If you already have a gondola pass for the day, you can drive to the Hochwurzen free of charge and start directly into the fun on skids. Otherwise you can buy a ticket for a single trip.

Safety first: No matter where, when tobogganing, the helmet belongs on the head. In addition, shoes with a good profile and snow goggles are an advantage if you want to brake well and arrive at the bottom with little snow on your face.

After the start, the first small hut comes: The Hochwurzenalm in sight. We also recommend that you stop by directly, because the alpine pine is not only pretty, but also the food and the sun terrace speak for themselves. Highlight for the kids: the goats who stretch their heads out of their stable again and again and like to be stroked.

The departure is pure family fun!

After that, it goes well strengthened back to the track and in the Sausewind down the mountain into the valley. A family race is still the most fun on the Hochwurzen with children in Schladming. But a few tobogganing tips: Bend flat backwards on straight routes and thus keep the track more easily and train the abdominal muscles at the same time. Come back up in the curves and shift weight slightly, help with your feet in steep curves. In the event of an accident right in front of you or a curve that you no longer get properly, simply pull the front part of the toboggan up. You land ungently, but still better than flying out of the curve or landing in a mass collision.

As already written above, you can also go tobogganing on the Hochwurzen in the evening. The track is then illuminated and on the Hochwurzenalm you can order Ripperl for the whole family in advance. So it will definitely be an adventure for everyone.
