If you have children, you will realise that not all museums are the same. A little flair and ideas are needed to really arouse the curiosity of all generations so that it also appeals to children. The fruit tree museum in Lana is a prime example of this.

Did you know? Lana is the oldest and largest apple-growing region in South Tyrol – 700,000 tonnes of apples are harvested in Lana every year. So if anyone knows about the fruit, it’s this museum for children in South Tyrol.

Each child is given a task at the entrance. Those who can already read can solve a crossword puzzle on the way, with questions and answers to be found in the exhibition rooms. Younger children keep a tally of how many bee stickers they find throughout the museum – and they really are hidden in the most surprising places.

A museum for children in South Tyrol to join in and have fun

Now everyone is ready to tackle South Tyrol’s favourite subject, the apple. How does a blossom become an apple? Which apple varieties are there? How do apples get from the tree to the shelf? And why was Steve Jobs inspired by the apple? As you make your way round the exhibition, you are encouraged to touch, join in and have fun.

The children’s world in the basement is undoubtedly an attraction for children. Here they can play, do handicrafts, do puzzles or read in peace and quiet. Our kids couldn’t get enough of the fruit twister game and the light tunnel.

Before the museum trip comes to an end, the children receive a little surprise as a thank you for taking part. By the way, there is Italian gelato around the corner at Café Inge for refreshment afterwards.

Good to know: The best way to get to the fruit tree museum is on foot. After a 30-minute walk from the Hotel Schwarzschmied in the village centre of Lana, you’re already there.

The fruit tree museum can also be found on the brand new discovery map for families in the region. Here you can discover even more hidden treasures that will allow you to immerse yourself in the depths of the region.
