The Squirrel Trail is the ideal family hike in South Tyrol with small children and is also part of the new discovery map of Lana. This relatively new circular trail winds its way through the middle of the forest and offers a total of 23 stations over a length of around 1 km, which will delight little adventurers. The trail has been specially designed to be accessible with pushchairs.

While the kids scurry from station to station, highly motivated like real squirrels, balancing, climbing and swinging, there are also benches around the trail to take a break. So every member of the family can enjoy the trail in their own way. For additional moments of happiness, a small picnic in your rucksack is a good idea.

Especially in summer, the dense tree population provides pleasant shade, making the squirrel trail a welcome stopover during a walk along the Marlinger Waalweg.

Tip for families with older children or an extra dose of vigour: park your car at the squirrel trail first. From there, the route follows the Marlinger Waalweg for four kilometres without any significant incline to Lebenberg Castle. The Haidenhof wine tavern next to the castle offers regional delicacies with a sweeping view over the Adige Valley, a playground and even animals. You should definitely stop off here. Afterwards, walk back to the starting point.

Free parking is available in the public car park next to the Waldschenke (St. Felix-Weg), making this a particularly convenient excursion destination.

The squirrel trail can also be found on the brand new discovery map for families in the region. Here you can discover even more hidden treasures that will let you delve into the depths of the region.
