The suitcases are ready to go, but you’re still struggling to choose the perfect summer destination? No need to worry, we’ve got a great sunny tip for you: Why not consider Burgenland? A region that still gets our pulse racing. Why is that? This gem of a place, located just south of Vienna, boasts a landscape as magical as its name suggests. There’s so much to enjoy here, for people of all ages. It’s got a warm, welcoming atmosphere that you’ll find in only a few places worldwide. This part of Austria is still a bit of an insider tip, but it’s definitely worth discovering.

You won’t find the typical Austrian mountain peaks here. Instead, you’ll discover a fascinating steppe landscape, extensive nature parks, deep forests, exciting water worlds and vineyards in between. All this is a great reason to enjoy the special nature, the culinary diversity and the valuable time together. In Burgenland, you can focus on spending quality time together while knowing the kids will have plenty to do.

You can have fun in lots of different ways, whether that’s at Austria’s largest amusement park, on a relaxed canoe tour on the Neusiedler See, on safari in the Neusiedler See-Seewinkel National Park or at a beach with an adventure playground. You can also enjoy a traditional Heurigen, or stay overnight in charming tiny houses on the edge of the forest. You’ll find adventure, relaxation, enjoyment and a deep connection with nature, far away from the tourist crowds. You can even bring the grandparents to Burgenland!

If this sounds interesting, here are some of the favourite places in northern to southern Burgenland for your spontaneous holiday happiness!

Nordburgenland – Natural idyll and amusement parks

Cosmopolitan and yet in love with your own homeland – around Lake Neusiedler in northern Burgenland, this even applies to nature. Because in the National Park Neusiedler See – Seewinkel you go to Safari, where you can observe Birds from all over the world, which settle in this so unique spot between steppe landscape and salt sheets around Lake Neusiedler for a stopover.

In the Freistadt Rust you can immerse yourself in the day in the city with a canoe trip and then end the day in the city.. But on Lake Neusiedler you can also jump into the cool water, kite and even surf. The best conditions for this are the beach PODObeach or the Strandbad Neuer Strand.

It will be enjoyable and adventurous at the Weingut Scheiblhofer. First, you swing up into the treetops on the Andreasberg and climb through the courses with the most beautiful view. Afterwards, you can devote yourself completely to the wine enjoyment while the children romp on the playground.

Get in touch with goats, sheep, chickens and a donkey at the Archehof Zur Grube in Podersdorf am See. Farmer Maria not only lovingly takes care of her animals, shows the children how to milk milk milk, but also offers cozy guest rooms on her farm. If you like to end and start the day with a view of the water, you are in the right place in the VILA VITA Pannonia.

In the Familypark, Austria’s largest theme park, which once began as a fairytale park and has grown continuously since then, you can look forward to an action-packed day that will put your kids into ecstasy mode. From exciting rides to imaginative game worlds, there is something for every age.

Mittelburgenland – fairytale castles and palaces as well as nostalgic draisines

The gentle hills in the Mittelburgenland are lined with majestic palaces and castles that take you on a journey through time to the Middle Ages and other epochs. Among them the impressive Burg Lockenhaus, where you can not only spend the night, but also track down the secrets and legends of the walls – with a detour to this favorite place you make yourself quite popular with the children.

Another highlight is the Sonnenland Draisinentour, which leads on nostalgic rails past inviting pleasure stations. Even if the weather in sun-drenched Burgenland does not play along, the Burg Forchtenstein offers an exciting alternative with its fascinating castle tour, a great restaurant and the exciting reptile zoo next door.

For water rats and those seeking relaxation, the Therme Lutzmannsburg offers bathing fun of the extra class. Look forward to exciting slides, a fascinating underwater world as well as special areas such as a children’s sauna and an area for the little ones.

South Burgenland – Break between thermal baths, tiny houses and trails

Vineyards, flower meadows, forests: southern Burgenland is what is called a natural beauty and especially with children you can get everything you need for a wonderful break in nature from this green oasis. It is best to choose the bicycle as a companion in southern Burgenland. For example, to reach the viewpoint Weinblick and admire the picturesque landscape. Then you can stop in the magnificent Buschenschank Kopfensteiner or discover the cross-border Naturpark Geschriebenstein-Irottkö on the Burgenland-Trails.

For adventurers, the Secret in Paradise Tour is ideal – an exciting escape game on wheels that inspires the whole family. Cultural insights can be found in the Then open-air museum, which takes you into past times and brings stories of the region to life.

And then there are probably the most beautiful tiny houses on the edge of the forest, known here as the Wohnothek am Ratschen. An accommodation like it is in the book with a swimming pool and delicious cuisine from early to late.

The southern Burgenland gets them all: the adventurous, the cozy and the connoisseurs. Under the bright blue summer sky, there is really nothing more beautiful than settling down at one of the beautiful places after a bike ride, letting the view wander over the landscape with a glass of wine in your hand and enjoying the peace and quiet away from any hustle and bustle.

As you can see, there is no lack of moments of pleasure for the entire family in Burgenland in any way, nor is there any lack of almost southern flair and numerous favorite places.
