A cosy little hideaway right in the middle of nature!

Just driving through the gorgeous vineyards of Deutsch Schützen in southern Burgenland gives you a feeling that you’ve stumbled upon something truly special – the charming little houses of the Wohnothek am Ratschen. We’re so excited to welcome you to our little oasis, a world away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Come and immerse yourself in our tranquil surroundings and recharge your batteries!
The focus is on nature, relaxation and enjoyment, and the wonderful thing about the Wohnothek is that it reflects this across the board in such a way that all generations feel at home – even the youngest!
The lovely host family were really thoughtful about this even before construction began. They wanted the wooden bungalows to blend in with the beautiful landscape of vineyards, forests and meadows. The project has been a huge success! The small houses blend in perfectly with the beautiful nature that surrounds them. It’s not uncommon to see a cute little rabbit hopping out of the forest or a deer poking its head out of the thicket. You can watch all the wonderful wildlife from the comfort of your own window or terrace.
Tiny Houses
There are 25 tiny houses in total, all of which are minimalist and decorated in subtle colors. The scent of spruce wood and the large windows ensure that you are truly absorbed by nature. Families will find plenty of space in the cozy houses. There is a separate bedroom for the kids.
Kids
The Wohnothek does not have a direct playground, but nobody misses it here. The surrounding nature is far too tempting. Each tiny house has a terrace from which you can go straight into the greenery. So you can sit outside and relax while the children play in front of the house.
Wellness
In addition to the charming tiny houses, there is also a wellness area with a sauna, steam bath and heated outdoor pool. Of course, the children are also allowed to swim and splash around here.
Culinary experience
The Wohnothek’s specialty is culinary art, so everything here is about good food. The bistro has a great breakfast buffet with regional products in the morning. Lunch and the afternoon offer small dishes and selected wines. The emphasis is on creative, down-to-earth cuisine and the very personal service you’d expect from a family business. You can enjoy a great view of the vineyards from the comfort of large glass windows.
The Ratschen gourmet restaurant is just a stone’s throw away. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to try it out for dinner during our visit, but other guests told us it’s an amazing place to eat and that’s why they’ve been going there for years.
Activities and nature experience
There are lots of great activities and nature experiences nearby. The Wohnothek am Ratschen is a great place to start exploring the nature, sports and wellness region of southern Burgenland. It’s a great idea to take your bikes and explore the vineyards. You could head to the Weinblick lookout point, for example, or take a detour to see the typical Kellerstöckl. You should also make a detour to the Kopfensteiner wine tavern, which is the most welcoming spot in the region. This is where the locals meet, and you can enjoy homemade dishes, snack boards, sandwiches, and meat products from the surrounding forests. You’ll feel right at home in this inviting atmosphere. So, definitely go there! You’ll get a taste of the real air of southern Burgenland.
