Eisenstadt with Esterhazy Castle is the best proof that Burgenland is always good for surprises. A legitimately sought-after destination for the family trip in Burgenland – on rainy days or if you feel like some culture. What makes the trip so special: Kids are enthusiastic about culture in a playful way, in such a way that it is definitely fun.

Esterhazy Castle is located directly in the city center and is a landmark of the region, with an atmosphere where history and tradition still crackle in the air. Here, all the stories from past times come back to life. How did a servant behave correctly? What does Joseph Haydn have to do with the castle? Why was the castle dog called trampel? And is there really a ghost at Esterhazy Castle?

Warmly recommended: Castle tour for families

Take a discovery tour of the castle and find out everything about its former inhabitants. Best in the form of the popular family leadership. Child-friendly, exciting and interactive, this tour ensures many wow and aha moments. During the guided tour, you not only go from room to room, but the children are allowed to slip into different roles, peek behind the scenes and even peek into the heating shaft – yes, the lock was already very modern for its time. And it is precisely in this way that children can be inspired by culture.

If you can’t make it to the family tour, you can borrow a museum suitcase and take it with you on the tour of the exhibitions. But that’s not all – did you know that you can also celebrate children’s birthdays at Esterhazy Castle? Then there is a royal celebration high up in the former dwelling of the servants. There they celebrate exuberantly, dress up and, of course, go around the castle. Throughout the year, festivals are held at Esterhazy Castle, which you should definitely not miss if you are nearby.

Strolling through the city center of Eisenstadt

Before or after the castle tour, you can take a leisurely walk through the pretty city center. There, local stores and small, fine restaurants are lined up, perfectly suited for a relaxed stroll through the pedestrian zone. Particularly worthwhile is a visit to stadtkind, where beautifully selected things for children can be found. Equally recommended is a detour to the unpacked shop Eisenstädter Haydn Kontor, which offers handmade wooden objects, candles and cosmetics for the home, even a play corner for children is available.

Around the corner tip: Forchtenstein Castle

Only 15 minutes away is the Forchtenstein Castle, former residence of the Esterhazy family. The family programs also have a tradition there and there is also an excellent restaurant in the middle of the castle, which makes your family trip in Burgenland even more tasty with delicious dishes. You can find even more favorite places in Burgenland with children here.
