Watching Allgäu craftsmanship in the making – it doesn’t get more regional than this!
In Urlau, not far from Leutkirch in the Allgäu, a young cooperative has been formed to bring the Allgäu Genussmanufaktur to life. The aim is to preserve a piece of home and make the region more attractive for the future.
As the name suggests, the Allgäu Genussmanufaktur is all about pure enjoyment. Under one and the same roof of a former brewery building, artisans from the region have joined forces. Since then, they have been delighting visitors of all ages with their skills.
Like busy bees, the Genussmanufaktur is buzzing with activity. Handmade bread smells from the bakery. Beer and lemonade are brewed according to traditional recipes. Scarves and other garments are eagerly woven by hand on large looms. And in the pottery, the most beautiful ceramics are created on the wheel.
There is so much to see! It is especially exciting to look over the artists’ shoulders as they work, to feel the passion in conversation, and in the end, even to take home a delightful product or two.
The village store on the first floor also includes the village café. There are homemade cakes, small dishes and everything against thirst. Before moving on to the next destination in the Allgäu, it is worth enjoying a piece of the Allgäu directly on site.
Around-the-corner tip: You can perfectly combine a visit to the Allgäu Genussmanufaktur with an alpaca hike at the Heslerhof. The lovely little town of Leutkirch is just a stone’s throw away.
